Irwin Academy Student/Parent Handbook
Irwin Academy School of Performing Arts
School Year: 2026–2027
Principal: Gary White
Letter from the Principal
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students:
During the 2026–2027 school year, Irwin Academy School of Performing Arts will continue its tradition of excellence. We have many exciting adventures ahead as a school of performing arts and 21st-century skills, including creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking.
I am honored to serve as your principal and look forward to building stronger relationships with all members of our Eagle family. At Irwin Academy, we believe all children can be successful learners.
We are STARS: Students and adults on this campus Take Responsibility, Act Safely, and Respectfully Interact with others.
Students are recognized and rewarded in the classroom and schoolwide for demonstrating STAR behavior. Families can support student success by reinforcing these expectations and modeling positive behavior.
This handbook contains useful information about school policies and procedures. Communication among staff, families, and students is essential. Contact your child's teacher to arrange a conversation when questions or concerns arise.
Working together, we will make this an incredible year for our Irwin Eagles!
Thank you,
Gary White
Principal

Back to topAttendance and Verifying Absences
Schedule doctor and dentist appointments after school or during minimum-day afternoons whenever possible. When an appointment during school hours cannot be avoided, bring your child to school for at least part of the day.
All student absences must be verified. Families may:
- Submit a note to the office or teacher when the child returns, including the reason and all absence dates.
- Email the child's teacher with the reason and all absence dates.
- Call the office each day the child is absent or on the day the child returns.
- Submit a doctor's or dentist's note confirming the appointment or reason for absence.

Irwin Academy maintains a comprehensive School Safety Plan that is reviewed annually. The plan addresses fire, earthquake, bomb threats, lockdown procedures, and dangerous situations on or near campus.
Staff members are assigned emergency duties, and food, water, safety, and first-aid supplies are stored on campus. Safety procedures are discussed and practiced in classrooms.
Fire, Disaster and Lockdown Drills
Students are taught what to do during earthquakes, fires, and other dangerous situations. Drills are practiced monthly and may be indicated by the alarm system or an administrative announcement. The purpose is preparation, not fear.
